Position Title:  Communications Associate
Reports to:  Executive Director
Classification:  Full-time, Non-exempt, Salaried Employee

Position Overview
The Communications Associate is responsible for the production of communications and marketing materials designed to raise community awareness of Chikaming Open Lands’ (COL) mission. The Associate will also manage donor and communications databases. The Associate may also participate in fundraising, education and outreach, and/or stewardship activities, as needed. The position reports to the Executive Director.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Donor Communications:
    Work with the Development & Marketing Manager to develop and produce appeal letters, renewal letters, and acknowledgment letters. Manage donor and communications databases. Develop and produce other print and electronic materials for recruitment, cultivation, and solicitation of donors.
  • Outreach Communications:
    Develop and produce print and electronic materials such as newsletters, brochures, and press releases to promote activities within the community to increase awareness of and support for COL. Manage COL’s website and social media platforms and content.
Ancillary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Development and Fundraising:
    Assist the Development & Marketing Manager with fundraising activities and events as needed. 
  • Education, Outreach, and Stewardship:
    Participate in education, outreach, and stewardship programs and activities as needed
  • General Administration:
    Provide general clerical and administrative support, and other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Qualifications 
Bachelor’s degree is required. Previous communications experience in the field of conservation or natural resources is preferred. Strong writing, organizational, and interpersonal/communication skills are required.  Incumbent should be a self-starter with the ability to collaborate with a team and interact with a wide variety of audiences. Requires proficient computer skills. Prior experience with web/social media content management is highly preferred. Passion for land conservation is essential. Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends is necessary.  Ability to work in an office environment and in an outdoor field environment is required.

Employment Terms
The position, located in Berrien County, Michigan is full-time with an expected starting salary of $40,000 – 45,000, depending on qualifications. Typical working hours are 9 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and weekend hours required.
