Kevin F. Flynn was an avid cyclist who vacationed in Southwest Michigan for years. In August 2013 he passed away in a biking accident in Harbor Country, Michigan. His death came as a shock to Susan Flynn, his wife, and his four children. Through his family’s bereavement Susan Flynn helped fund the acquisition of a new 34 acre preserve for Chikaming Open Lands. A year later Flynn Woods was purchased and in 2015 the persevere was dedicated to Kevin.

In his memory Flynn Woods has been established as a safe haven for bikers on East Rd. The trail head features a bicycle repair station, as well as a pavilion and water bottle filling station. Additionally, Chikaming Open Lands has plans to put in an asphalt bicycle path to further accommodate cyclists. The Flynn family’s generosity has helped establish a wonderful preserve, a place for families to bond, and a safe hangout for cyclists. But more than that, they have created a space to remember their loved one.
