Agricultural Preservation: Options to Protect Your Farmland

Join Chikaming Open Lands and our partners on Thursday, November 17th at 10 am to learn about options available to protect and preserve your farmland. This event will be held at the Southwest Michigan Research and Extension Center, 1791 Hillandale Rd, Benton Harbor, MI 49022, from 10 am to 1 pm. Lunch will be provided at no cost, sponsored by Berrien County Farm Bureau. 

Attendees will learn about the following farmland preservation programs in our area:

Jarod Thelen, Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development:  State Farmland Preservation Program (PA 116)

Elizabeth Brost & Katie Montoya, Berrien County Community Development: Berrien County Purchase of Development Rights Program (PDR), & the State of Michigan PDR Program

Ryan Postema, Chikaming Open Lands: Working with a Land Conservancy – Farmland Preservation Options

Ed Kretchman, Berrien County Farm Bureau: Farmland Preservation Programs from the Landowner Perspective

Panel Discussion During lunch, engage with local farmers and landowners who are involved in land preservation on the ground
