Up From the Gravel Pit: A Hike Through Burns Prairie

July 20, 2024 from 10:00am to Noon

Chikaming Open Lands (COL) and Harbor Country Hikers (HCH) are teaming up for a hike through Burns Prairie Preserve during peak bloom!

Robert Wagner, the Preserve Steward for Burns Prairie, will lead us through restored planted prairies, seasonal wetlands, and along what was once a gravel pit. The property had been fairly devastated by human exploitation but is now, with human help, rejuvenating. Bob will talk about some of the history of Burns Prairie and the steps COL takes to restore properties to their natural states.

HCH has an All-Terrain Rollator which may be reserved for use on their hikes. Reservations are made by emailing harborcountryhikers@gmail.com on a first-come first-served basis.

Wear long pants (preferably tucked-in), a sun hat, sturdy shoes or boots, and insect repellent, and bring plenty of water. In case of inclement weather the day of the hike, check the HCH website, harborcountryhikers.com, or their Facebook page for notice of cancellation or rescheduling.
