Terri Hebert
Terri’s photography is an exploration of patterns and relationships in the natural world, a way of bearing witness to the beauty found within Michigan’s landscapes. Photography, for her, is an act of attentiveness - a bridge between knowledge and wonder, where the visible and unseen converge, revealing the profound connections that shape both the place and our inner lives. Terri is a retired Professor of Education who now focuses much of her time on designing and facilitating retreats for adults wishing to slow down and (re)focus on the things of importance - time in nature, time in contemplation, and time in community. Terri loves to travel and explore new sites - and while exploring, always has her camera by her side, just in case something piques her curiosity.

Don Ashley
Born and raised "on the farm" I have always enjoyed nature. Post retirement has given me the opportunity to get out there more, and explore. Getting in a hike is a great way to unwind and get away from life's issues for a while, and you never know what you might see. It only made sense to start taking a camera along to share nature's beauty I find with others.

John Knox
I moved to Union Pier seven years ago and have, with my wife, been walking a dog in the preserves three to five days a week ever since. I shoot what I see ... It's all about the light!

Experiencing the wonder and beauty of wandering the lakeshore; driving the winding dirt roads through the woods; catching an incredible sunset on the beach; catching skiers and snowboarders in action on the slopes, or discovering the detail of a new flower — photography gets me outside and immersed in all the elements of nature. Beauty is where you find it... and I am blessed to be able to live in such a diverse area with nearby Lake Michigan, and acres of wetlands, bogs, prairies, and forest preserves!

Mark Piper
As a busy “IT guy”, I’ve been using a camera since the early 1980s to help me slow down, decompress, and really take in the beautiful patterns, colors, and interesting compositions in the world around me. My photos mostly center on nature, having always had a love of the outdoors and an interest in bicycling, hiking, and backpacking, although I also enjoy recording the patterns that I see in architecture. You can see more of my pictures at https://markpiperphotography.com/.

Rebecca Friedland
I love to get lost in the woods with my camera. There is always an adventure to be found. I love to photograph things that have been untouched by human hands.

Rob Gow
Photography offers me a deeper, more intimate perspective on my life experiences, prompting me to savor the beauty of my surroundings and pause in moments of curiosity. Living along a strip of land sandwiched between Lake Michigan and the Galien River Marsh provides unparalleled opportunities to observe the rich biodiversity and breathtaking scenery of the place I call home. While my travel photography allows me to tuck away cherished memories and create a visual diary of unforgettable encounters with the rest of the world.

Molly Mershon
I became interested in photography in college and went on to study it in a more comprehensive way post-grad at the Art Institute of Chicago. Recently, I have become an avid bird watcher. Combining my love for birdwatching, hiking, and photography allows me the space and time to get away from the stress that everyday life presents. I find great pleasure in capturing the interplay of light with the panoply of objects and subjects that nature provides.

Jim Long
I love hiking nature preserves with my camera in hand. Being long retired, I have plenty of time to do so. I especially like landscapes that include water and small details, such as wildflowers and fungi.

Mari Maloney
I find myself chasing light so often in my life; finding the angle of the sun, the way it falls on my subject, whether human or not, is like turning puzzle pieces until they fit! My happy places are in my studio, creating beautiful images, or foraging through forests, beaches, and mountain wilderness, searching for line and form in nature.
Leading a photowalk in the COL Chris Thompson Memorial Preserve I was able to create image of a beautiful praying mantis. Perspective and a steady hand is important when photographing insects in macro. I yearn for a tack sharp image and always try to "get it right" in the camera.
